A name is a word or term used for identification. A name could be used to identify the purpose of an entity (human, place, thing, project, etc).
For every name that is given, there is a significant purpose (Genesis 2:23).
Names are very important.
Names carry tremendous power.
Names define people.
In the biblical days, people determined their children’s destinies through the names they gave to them.
Why would someone need a new name?
A change of name is literally a change of destiny.
A new name signifies a new life. It enables one to function under an increased capacity.
In biblical times, the changing of one’s name was significant, therefore it was used to symbolize the binding of a covenant.
Examples of such changes in the Bible:
Abram (high/exalted father) to Abraham (father of many) – Gen 17:5
Sarai (my princess) to Sarah (princess) – Gen 17:15
Jacob (supplanter) to Israel (one who prevailed with God) – Gen 32:28
Simon (personally, he was an unstable man) to Peter/Cephas (stone or rock, which signified stability) – John 1:42; Matthew 16:17-18
How can I obtain the new name?
1. By walking in righteousness:-
This involves regularly feeding on, and living by the Word of God.
In our text (Isaiah 62), we see Prophet Isaiah, who was a type of Christ, declaring he would not hold his peace until the righteousness of Zion broke forth.
Zion is a type of the Church, which is the Body of Christ!

In this year (more than ever before), righteous must prevail in the Church.
It is when righteousness totally prevails in the Church that the Word of God takes full dominance in this darkness-driven world (Psalm 110:2).

Righteousness – right standing before God. Walking in the ways of God. Doing the will of the Father. Absolute obedience to God. Walking in that lonely, forsaken, uncommon, unpopular, old, rugged path that leads to life. It involves embracing the way of the Cross.
“Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear”. Matthew 13:43 –
“And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever” Daniel 12:3
“And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday” Psalm 37:6 –

Righteousness is very strategic to the fulfilment of our God-given purpose in this year. For those that are walking on the path of righteousness, the Righteousness of God will forth speak for you in this year!
It will be your year of manifestation…

2. Declaring the Word of God by faith:- This implies standing on the Word of God, even in the face of thick adversity. Persecution will arise for the sake of the Word, in order to prevent the manifestation of the promise(s) of God concerning you.
Take your stand on the Word, by the Word, for the Word!
Romans 10:8,10; Romans 4:17-18
A new name which the mouth of the Lord will name…..
Revelation 2:17 – …a new name which nobody knows, except the one who receives it…
“The Gentiles (the ungodly) will see your righteousness (as it springs forth) and the kings of the world will see the manifestation of God’s glory upon your life”……
(Isaiah 60:1-3)
Because you refused to compromise your stand for God, He will stand for you in the time of trouble (Daniel 1-3).
NOTE: The works of God in our lives are not meant for us alone, rather, they are meant to bring the Gentiles (the ungodly) and the heathen kings into the knowledge of Christ, so that they can also become partakers of the inheritance of the saints.
