Your WORK for God, though very good and great, it is not as important as your WALK with Him (God).
As a Christian, your life consists of two things: the walk (your way of ife)you choose, and those with whom you choose to walk it. Your walk can determine whom you walk with; but whom you walk with can also determine your walk (your way of life). Therefore, you have to choose whom you will walk with and the way you will walk.
To enjoy smooth walk with whomever you choose to walk, two factors are inevitable: talking and listening– one person talks, the other listens and vice versa.
There can never be a successful walk with whom you never get to speak to or speak to you, listen to or listen to you.
· A walk with God is a calling
A walk with God is not just a mere religious exercise but a calling. God calls everyone to have a long-life walk with Him. Just as He called Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses to have a walk with them, He is still calling you and me today.
“And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.”Gen. 3:8
“And when Abram was ninety-nine years old, Jehovah appeared to Abram and said to him, I am the Almighty God! Walk before Me and be perfect”. Genesis 17:1
How to walk with God/ What it means to walk with God?
To walk with God, it involves you and God. You both have roles to play, as the adage goes, “it takes two to tangle”. Walking with God is a two-way thing. For flow of communication and deeper relationship in the walk, both parties must be all engaging. Relationship deepens when the two people involve get to talk and listen to each other.
· Talkingand listening
Talking here applies to both parties. When God talks, He talks to you in His word, either through the reading of the Bible or through the messages of His servants. He also talks to you by the leading of His Holy Spirit. At this time, God expects you to listen and obey Him.
“Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and [that it may be] well with you, and [that] ye may prolong [your] days in the land which ye shall possess”. Deuteronomy 5:33
On the other hand, when you are talking to God, you are only responding to the obedience of His word, and this can only be done through your prayers, supplications and meditations of your heart. At this time God will also hear and grant your desires.
“And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear”. Isaiah 65:24
When you walk with God what do you stand to gain?
· He will show you His ways
“And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do”.
Exodus 18:20
· He will lead you to the right part
“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore”. Psalms 16:11
“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye” Psalms 32:8
· He will make you holy and blessed
“The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways. And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee. And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD swear unto thy fathers to give thee”. Deuteronomy 28:9-11
